The SMC controls many different low level functions on your intel-based Mac. If you start to notice your mac isn’t responsive to certain buttons presses or fans run at hight speeds or not at all. There is a full list of Mac ailments available on Apple’s support article. An SMC reset could be the fix!
- Shut Down your Mac
- Press the left Shift+Control+Option all at the same time on the built in keyboard and then press the power button. Continue to hold for 10 seconds.
- Release all keys.
- Power on your Mac normally
If you have a removable battery remove it after shutting down your Mac and replace it before turning your Mac back on.
